Description

Glenville State University has an immediate opening for a Part-time Security Guard with no state benefits. The applicant may work up to, but not exceed, 1040 hours annually. The Security Guard position reports to the Director of Public Safety. The primary purpose for this position is to provide and maintain a safe and secure environment for Faculty, Staff, Students and Visitors at Glenville State University by providing a variety of security services. The position provides a visible, mobile presence throughout the entire campus to ensure all persons accomplish their educational and business objectives.

Examples of Duties
  • Patrol all areas on campus for the purpose of reducing and preventing personal harm and destruction of property.
  • Check all buildings for security, fire and safety violations.
  • Report all deficiencies in a timely manner and correct minor infractions whenever possible.
  • Patrol campus during special events which draw large crowds and direct traffic in order to prevent congestion.
  • Provide crowd control including subduing disruptive persons.
  • Enforce all applicable college rules, regulations and policies.
  • Assist all local agencies responding to emergencies on campus property.
  • Monitor parking in all campus lots and issue citations when violations are identified.
  • Become familiar with all aspects of crisis response and follow appropriate action as needed.
  • Assist the Director of Public Safety with required training programs including safety, security and emergency.
Typical Qualifications
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • No experience required but at least six months related experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Applicant needs to be equipped with good verbal and written communication skills and an ability to relate with young adults.
  • Background knowledge of GSU rules, regulations and policies is preferred.
  • Individual must have a valid driver's license and be able and willing to work a rotating schedule.
  • Willing to undergo Self-defense tactics training.
  • Willing to undergo Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray training.
Physical/Work Demands: Requires long periods of standing, walking, bending and lifting up to 50 lbs., running, jumping, climbing, and physical interaction with public. Patrols campus on foot daily and during special events.
