The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture/Laboratory of Anthropology (MIAC) is a center of stewardship, knowledge, and understanding of the artistic, cultural, and intellectual achievements of the diverse Indigenous peoples of the Greater Southwest.
Why does the job exist?
This position provides security, customer service, and general maintenance to facilities in a museum setting. Security officers have regular interaction with the general public while monitoring the facilities.
How does it get done?
Security Officers conduct constant patrols of all galleries, library, and grounds to provide protection and security of museum buildings and valuable and irreplaceable artifacts.
Report and document all gallery daily activity and assist custodial with general custodial upkeep of Museum facilities and grounds.
Respond promptly to emergency situations and complete necessary documentation.
Work nights, weekends, and flexible schedules as needed to cover special events, rentals, and other operational needs.
Act as a backup cashier when needed.

Minimum Qualification
No prior experience or training required.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Extended periods of standing and walking. Sitting, standing, bending, and reaching are all required. Continuous two-way radio
use;
Work during inclement weather and perform assigned duties, including snow removal;
Requires overtime for special activities within the Museum and Laboratory of Anthropology;
Some evening, weekend and holiday hours are scheduled in advance and required;
Availability for emergencies is required;
Ability to lift 50 lbs.
